Abstract
In RF switch design, Defected Ground Structure (DGS) can reduce board size by replacing conventional quarter wavelength of transmission line. This thesis presents the design, simulation and development of Low Power Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT) RF Switch with DGS for WiMAX at 2 GHz band. PIN diodes are used in the SPDT RF Switch design. This SPDT RF Switch has three poles where the single pole is connected to antenna while the double throw is connected to the receiver and transmitter. The initial circuit performance has been simulated and analyzed in Advanced Design System software. The prototypes of SPDT switch with DGS and normal SPDT switch with conventional quarter wavelength have been fabricated for performance comparison. As results, the performance of SPDT switch with DGS is comparable with the normal SPDT switch in terms of insertion loss, isolation and return loss, despite of 35% reduction of the transmission line length. Beside that this project has managed to produce three technical papers at local and international conferences.
