Abstract

Ergonomic risk factor is important issues because it can influence productivity and competitiveness of industry. Risk factors associated with manual handling, repetition, force, awkward posture, static position, frequency are contributing to development of the musculoskeletal disorder (MSDs) such as back pain. This study aims to identify the ergonomic risk factors at one manufacturing composite industry in particular in warehouse area. A survey has been conducted to highlight some indications for ergonomic risks in warehouse department. The study found out that there are ergonomic risk factors present in the workplace. The Cumulative Lifting Index (CLI) were calculated from the NIOSH Equation, it was found exceed allowable standard and postural score from RULA analysis indicates high risk. In order to reduce the risk associated with ergonomic risk factor in warehouse, some improvement was suggested among others; these are related to engineering solution or counter measure to the problems found. The intention is to reduce the CLI index which in turns to reduce the ergonomic risk. Others approach suggested were item height should be adjusted, the frequency of lifting reduced and working postures improved. The Revised NIOSH lifting and RULA analysis is used to verify and find the counter measure to eliminate and reduce the risks. The results showed that the level of ergonomic risk factor at warehouse is reduced based on new job design.
