Abstract

This research is an analysis regarding 5.8 GHz RF power amplifier design. The main purpose of a. RF power amplifier is to boost radio signal to a sufficient power level for transmission on a the transmitter in WLAN application. Designing a RF power amplifier is critical because it involves solving several contradicting requirement. This RFPA is used a EPA018A-70 HEHPFET transistor and built on DUROID 5880 microstrip. The most important parameter is the linearity and the efficient of the amplifier. We have to make sure the amplifier is linear in order to minimize the distortion that may occur due to non-linearity. The efficient is defined as the ratio of the generated and the drawn de power. We also have to make sure the amplifier is conditionally stable or unconditionally stable. This is to make sure the device can work at the frequency desired. In modem radio telecommunication system, the design of linear and efficient radio frequency power amplifier present one of the most challenging design problems. In general, relatively high transmit power levels are needed, and the power consumption of the power amplifier easily dominates over all other electronics and digital processing. In this research the 5.8GHz RF power amplifier is simulated and calculations of the parameters and measurement are done. Then comparison is done between these two methods.
