Abstract

Solar energy is gaining more popularity for the choice of electricity generation as it is available everywhere especially in Malaysia and it is free to harness. This paper presents the design and development of a power stabilization stand-alone photovoltaic (PV) system using maximum power point tracking technique. The PY module is modeled based on the parameters obtained from a commercial PY data sheet. A de-de boost converter was chosen to step up the input de voltage coming from the PY module and operated under continuous current mode CCM and variation of switching duty cycle value. The proposed system was simulated by using simulink/MATLAB under a constant and a variation of solar irradiance and temperature. The maximum power point was identified based on the analysis from the simulation output graph. In addition to that, maximum power point tracking method is also included to ensure that optimum use of PY module is made. A 118 scale remote control vehicle was chosen as the system application. Results show that the proposed system yields the similar performance as produced by the circuitry simulation.
