Abstract

Induction Motor has been considered as the principal load in industrial sectors and commercial buildings as well. In term of cost for operation and maintenance, industries and commercial buildings, single phase induction motors (SPIMs) are known to have the edge out of other types of motor which makes it much more preferable. In relation to this, a majority of variable speed drives have been applied to vary the speed of these induction machines. Ibis project aims to develop a speed drive control system for single phase induction motor. Through this control system, the behavior of the single phase induction motor's torque and slip characteristic under variable frequency operation have been studied. The double revolving field theory has been used for modeling the performance of single-phase induction motors operating in steady state. Ibis theory requires that the equivalent circuit parameters be known accurately. Through this theory, the slip and torque characteristics of the SPIM has been predicted. These characteristics has been used as reference for controlling the ratio of volt per hertz (V/Hz). The speed variation for the controller is obtained by applying simple inverter topologies based on V/Hz control method which also known as the scalar control method. The inverter generally use PWM switching control signals to produce an AC output voltage and it is generated by analogue circuit of PWM generator. The resulting output voltage of inverter was analyzed by using MATLAB simulation software.
