Abstract

In the practice of management of technology, technology forecasting is a crucial input for all planning in technical-based companies. With a certain degree of accuracy, technology forecasting can estimates future economic activity associated with specific sources of action that able to guide corporate strategy correctly and steadily in an uncertain environment that full of changes and risks. In this research, the diagnosis of technical-based industries located in Malaysia are aimed at finding the contemporary technology forecasting techniques adopted and critical factors that would support towards positive behaviour of technology forecasting implementation. The data and analysis phase revealed that there are small numbers of technical organizations that applied technology forecasting for short-term forecast. This occurrence is highly correlated with the organizations' profile of this study. The inferential statistics, on the other hand, affirmed that soft factors have higher influence towards positive behaviour of technology forecasting implementation. Therefore, training related to technology forecasting techniques and process is highly recommended to increase the rate of technology forecasting application. To enhance the critical factors, holistic approaches by looking at human resource practices and organizational support are proposed. However, for better application and performance of technology forecasting, organizations must incorporate well all critical factors that comprises of soft and hard when implementing the forecasting tasks.
