Abstract

This project present design of array antenna from type of inset-fed microstrip patch antenna oriented at 45° and -45°. The antennas are capable to generate dualpolarization radiation pattern oriented at desired location. Combinations of two and more patches using quarter-wave impedance matching technique has been used to designs the array antennas operate at 2.4 GHz. The designs were simulated using Microwave Office 2006 and Microwave Studio CST. This antennas were fabricated on FR4 substrate with a dielectric constant E:r =4. 7, tan cr =0.0 19 and thickness = 1.6mm. The simulation and measurement results have been compared. The designs of l x2, lx4 and 2x2 array antennas yield a bandwidth of 5%, return loss <-lOdE. The gain of the single element antenna almost 4.21 dBi, and the gain of 1 x2 arrays is 7.51 dBi. By designing more patch, which is 2x2 and lx4 anay antennas, the enhancement of gain is achieved were 8.734 dBi and 7.944 dBi, respectively. Finally, the result showed that the combination of more patches in array can improve the performance of antenna gain.
