Abstract

The project develops a wireless attendance system that utilizes the fingerprint for identification purposes. The images of the fingerprint are captured using the Microsoft Fingerprint Reader. The Microsoft Fingerprint Reader is attached to the Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) via the female to female USB connector. With the help of the Graphical User Interface (GUI), the images will be sent to the database in the server for matching and updating purposes through a wireless network. This project is cost effective and practical because it saves times from messy procedures of collecting students' attendance. On top of that, the project is able to eliminate ' fake attendance' problem. The backbone of the project is the wireless connection establishment with GUI development. The wireless technology utilized is the Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). The transmitting and receiving devices for WLAN are the D-Link DI-624 Wireless I 08G Router and D-Link DWL-G 132 Wireless 108G USB Adapter respectively. The GUI system is developed using the Microsoft Visual Basic. Net. Meanwhile the database is managed utilizing the Microsoft Access. In all, the performance depends on the wireless coverage range and the agreement of both client-server for connection.
