Abstract

The operation of switching power supplies can be relatively easy to understand. Unlike linear regulators that operate the power transistor in the linear mode, the switch mode power supply (SMPS) operates the power transistor in both the saturated and cutoff states. This project will focus in designing a SMPS using a topology of buck boost converter, where the value of duty cycle will decide whether the converter operate in buck mode or boost mode. The duty cycle of power semiconductor switch in switching mode power supply (SMPS) will be controlled to switch a de input voltage at high frequency thus regulate the de output voltage. An appropriate inductor (L) and capacitor(C) filter will be used to reduce the output voltage ripple. To make the converter operate in continuous mode, the current through the inductor L should be never falls to zero during a commutation cycle. To get a better result, some hand calculation and simulation test will be done to make a comparable and detect any differences before hardware implementation.
