Abstract

This project main objective is to simulate sign language alphabets into a realistic 3D human hand model and making it interactive to the users. The purpose of this project is for users to be able to learn the basic of the sign language which focuses on vocal and some consonant alphabets and to study the articulated concept of the human hand. This proposal was brought up when realizing the lack of sign language application in a 3D environment. However, this project is not a fully application but only a prototype because it does not teach people the sign language from A to Z. The benefit for this project is to model and animate the human hand to look realistic. For the implementation, 3D Studio Max had been used for modeling the human hand and Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 had been used for animating the 3D human hand in OpenGL. Forward kinematics was also implemented to move the 3D human hand model to perform sign language. Target user for this project was divided into two groups which is animator who will look at the correctness of the modeling and movement of the hand and people who want to learn sign language. Methodology used to develop these is experimental methodology which include each phases involved in this project. As a conclusion, this report was prepared so that the user can understand the flow and the development of this project.
