Abstract

Shop Inventory System using Optical Character Recognition is a project that developed to be used by staff of shoe outlet as an alternative way for them to process their inventory. The major software that is used to develop this project is Microsoft Visual Basic.Net 2002 and Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. The main objective of this system is to develop user-friendly interface for the staff of shoe outlet in purpose to do their inventory. The OCR is used to scan the barcode of the item. In the scan result, the barcode of the item will be compare with the pre-safe data to catch the information and display the information from the database. Methodology used in this project is System Development Life Cycle (SDLC). 2-tier architecture also has been used in the design phase. In testing strategy, black-box testing is applied. Project conclusion described strengths and weaknesses of the project. The strengths of this project system are user friendly and secure. It is user friendly as only by scanning the barcode on the item, the system able to process the data. In term of security, only authorized user can access to the system. The weaknesses of this system are no alert notification for stock that less than 5 and it is only a stand alone system. Therefore, it is not accessible through the internet.
