Abstract

Augmented Reality (AR) is the integration of game visual and audio content with the user's environment in real time. Unlike virtual reality game, which often requires a separate room or confined area to create an immersive environment, augmented reality gaming uses the existing environment and creates a playing field within it. While virtual reality games require specialized VR headsets, only some augmented reality systems use them. AR games are typically played on devices like smartphones, tablets and portable gaming systems. AR gaming expands the playing field, taking advantage of the diversity of the real-world environment to keep the games interesting. This project was developed to investigate how the AR game can foster better attention span of teenagers. Vuforia Software Development Kit (SDK) was used as the plug in to integrate the AR technology in the game. The project methodology that being used in the project were Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). From the testing that had been conducted, there were three findings found; the design of achievable game's level progression can sustain player's attention to complete the AR game, a simple task goal in game design can motivate the player to complete playing the game, and the surrounding environment can affect player concentration while playing game. Thus, the outcomes of this project is to enrich the teenager's attention span in overlaying digital graphic.
