Abstract

The project focuses on developing Hamzah Dungeon: Tower of Ruins (HD:ToR), a dungeon crawler RPG mixed with elements of rogue-like and Tower-Climbing games. The aim is to test the compatibility of the genres involved to make a functional and fresh entry for the genre. The development process follows a user centered design approach, incorporating extensive research, prototyping, and user testing. HD:ToR includes a wide and complex multi-storey ed tower acting as the main dungeon of the game, character selection, the permadeath mechanic and an upgrade mechanic. The permadeath and upgrade mechanics serve as an essential tool for players to simulate the replayability of a rogue-like game and keep players invested in the game. Additionally, the complex structure of the dungeon allows for players to explore and be rewarded for it with secret rooms, lore, and treasures if they so wishes to. Evaluation of the project's success is based on usability testing and player feedback. The results aim to successfully design a game that implements such mechanics and features of the game that is a great mix of Rogue-like, Tower Climbing, and Dungeon Crawler into one 2D game. In conclusion, HD:ToR is a dungeon crawler RPG mixed with elements of rogue-like and Tower-Climbing games that prioritizes accessibility for individuals with vision impairments. Through the implementation of audio cues and a talkback function, the game aims to provide an inclusive gaming experience, enabling players to navigate the game environment and interact with menus effectively.
