Abstract

The title of the project is Implementation of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) at Textile Manufacturing Company. The OEE is a tool for determining the level of effectiveness of the use of equipment. This project is to implement and determine the machine's level of effectiveness by using the OEE method, identify the factors causing the six big losses using Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), and provide suggestions for improvements to increase the effectiveness of the machine. This study was conducted on a machine in the packaging department, MCB Packaging Machine, at a textile manufacturing company located in Tanjung Kling, Melaka. The company is engaged in sewing products such as zippers, safety pins, and hooks and eyes, and MCB Packaging Machine is a machine used to pack product hooks and eyes. The implementation of OEE at MCB Packaging Machine obtained 76.01%, which is below the OEE standard, which is 85%. Then, continue by analyzing the losses on this machine using six big losses. From the six big losses analysis, it is known that the dominant loss is breakdown losses are 54.17%, and the second-largest loss in speed losses, which is 29.24%. Both of these losses result in low OEE values on MCB packaging machines. After that, the Fishbone diagram is used to find the root cause of the losses. The cause of the magnitude of this loss consists of four factors: man, machine, material, and method. To increase the machine's efficiency and reduce the value of the six big losses on the MCB packaging machine, the FMEA performed to determine the most critical cause. FMEA is a procedure to identify potential cause product failures based. The recommended improvements to reduce losses are to provide training to the operator to minimize breakdown time. The second recommendation is performing scheduled maintenance to keep the machine in its best condition and avoid breakdown.
