Abstract

The purpose of this project is to propose a new spin grind dryer design to solve industrial problems by shortening the process sequence. The main objective of this project is to develop and improve the conceptual design of spin grind dryer machine by using the Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) approach. By applying the total design method, several processes need to be carried out under certain methods including Product Design Specification (PDS), Conceptual Design, and DFMA approach. To determine and generate ideas for developing previous products, a similar product analysis was performed. At the conceptual design stage, Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Techniques for Sequential Preference Sequence with Equal to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) are used to determine the best design concept during the selection process. The design of the selected 3D model is performed using Solidworks software at the detailed design stage and the final design is selected based on AHP and TOPSIS methods. The improvement of the spin grind dryer machine from the existing design is shown with a 12% increase in design efficiency and 20% operation time reduction using the manual DFMA Boothroyd Dewhurst method. This project shows the effectiveness of applying the DFMA in the design and development of a high-quality product quickly. In summary, in terms of its usability, efficiency, and ease of assembly, the proposed new model of the spin grind dryer machine for seaweed powder processing is much better after implementing the DFMA approach.
