Abstract
A small wind energy conversion system is one of the renewable energy electricity generation systems available apart from photovoltaic. Due to the low penetration of renewable energy (RE), a small wind turbine generator is considered to be connected to the grid. The small wind generator is capable of producing electricity even though in low wind speed areas. But the renewable energy source usually produced lower values of voltage and power which cannot be implemented directly. By using an isolated converter, the produced output voltage can be step up to a higher voltage level which can be converted to the rated grid voltage. This project aims to design a multi-stage power conversion system to harvest electricity from a small wind generation system. The desired output voltage produced is 230V RMS with the power quality that satisfies the standard for grid connection. By integrating a push-pull converter with a closed-loop system, a unipolar inverter with an LC filter, and a bidirectional buck-boost converter, the desired output can be obtained. The stability of the system producing power on full load capability is simulated and analyzed in Simulink MATLAB.
