Abstract

Solar photovoltaic system is one of technologies innovation that utilizes sunlight to create electricity without pollutants. Solar energy is known as environmentally friendly because does not deplete any natural resources and will never run out. Malaysian government has target to promote and support renewable sources through Green Technologies programed. Furthermore, Malaysia, a tropical country is located at the equator region which always receives enough solar radiation to supply electricity. However, Malaysia is still in back compared to other countries like Germany and China due to the lack of awareness and highly cost in install the system. This paper focused on 1 MW grid-connected PV system in Malaysia which specifies the requirement of the system. It is very important to know the basic and knowledge in designing any grid connected PV system such as the energy efficiency and solar access for the site, selecting components namely, PV modules and inverter as well as the balance of system (BOS) components for ground mounted PV system, system sizing and identify the factors that affect the PV system. In this project, the technical and financial aspect will was simulated and analyzed via HOMER software therefore, an efficient system performance can be realized. Keywords- photovoltaic (PV), Green Technologies, grid-connected, Malaysia, HOMER.
