Abstract
There are two main types of suspension that usually have been used by commercial vehicle passive and semi-active suspension system. For passive suspension system, it only consist of spring and damper with a fixed rate. This will bring uneven vertical motion to the vehicle that transmitted to the passenger in the vehicle cannot be controlled due to the characteristic of the basic damper. The main characteristic that should be considered in the commercial vehicle is driving safety and comfort. For this project, an analysis will be made to compare between semi-active suspension and passive suspension. An analysis by using Matlab software will be conducted to determine several aspects such as the vehicle body displacement and vertical acceleration of the semi-active suspension, it should reduce ubeven vertical movement than passive suspension by the existing of magnetorheological (MR) damper in the semi-active suspension system. At the end of this project, the semi-active suspension system by using MR dampers will show the positive result that this type of system should be better than a passive suspension system.
