Abstract

Today we are living in 21st century where automation is playing important role in human life. Home automation allows us to control household appliances like light, door, fan, air conditioning etc. It also provides home security and emergency systems to be activated. Home automation not only refers to reduce human efforts but also energy efficiency and time saving. The main objectives of home automations is for people who want their home security can be monitored anywhere and expect sophisticated technology to simple life that will enable them to control their home appliances and warn them if there is a waste of electricity. This report puts forward the design of home automation that focuses on to power on home appliances simultaneously from a native control application running on mobile phone. Any electrical device with a standard power plug can be a part of this vision. The design of this project is the combination together microcontroller boards are easy to use (Arduino) and the world of Android handsets. Home appliances are connected to the Arduino and communication is established between the Arduino and Android mobile device or tablet. The home appliances are connected to the input/output ports of the embedded system board and their status is passed to the Arduino. This project developed an authentication to the system for authorized person to access home appliances. It presents the design and implementation of automation system that can monitor and control home appliances via android phone or tablet.
