Abstract

Malaysia needs knowledgeable human capital to move the k-economy in countering the fast-paced technological changes. A multi-skilled workforce has to be made available to cater for current and future needs. Apart from the technical expertise acquired in the various disciplines in the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), a dire need exist for inculcation of entrepreneurial knowledge to ensure that our nation is equipped with competent human resource to face globalization and k-economy. This is in line with Ramlee (2000) who contends that economic competitiveness of any country broadly hinge on the competencies of the workforce. Entrepreneurial characteristics are very much needed in any occupation. These include planning orientation, responsibility, self-confidence, innovative and creative, readiness to grab opportunities and continuous up-grading of job quality, initiative, learning from feedback and previous experience and maximizing self potentials. Possession of these characteristics will enable one not only cope with the changes and expansions in the workplace but also in their daily life. Rasheed (2000) asserts that entrepreneurial talent is vital in recognizing and seizing opportunities in the global economy that emphasizes innovation.
