Abstract

This research examines the development of opportunity for commercializing Intellectual Property among hala1 food manufacturers in Melaka. There is common view that SMEs in Malaysia has less protection on their lntel1ectual Property as compared to any region in the world which will particularly resulted in Jack of opportunity in exploiting lntellectua1 Property protection. This research employs the question as to whether there is any empirical evidence in supporting the view that SMEs in halal food manufacturers in Malaysia lack of awareness with regards to Intellectual Property protection information. To achieve this, the positive role of the Intellectual Property in SMEs economic development in halal food manufacturers was examined. In order to utilize the Intellectual Property protection, stronger commercialization of Intellectual Property among halal foods manufacturers is required. The experiences of other countries were examined to support this assertion. Further, the research investigates the SWOT analysis in order to identify the problems that occurred in SMEs towards commercialization of their Intellectual Property. Having identified some of the challenges and threatens faced by them which could 1inder their resilience and competitiveness in competing in the widely market, we prescribed some strategies, suggestions and also recommendations where government, responsible agencies for SMEs the halal food SMEs themselves may adopt.
