Abstract
Very often, UTeM campus premises, especially the canteens, are invaded by thousands of house flies. During the peak seasons, the sheer abundance of house flies crawling on the table and feeding on uncooked and cooked food is a turn-off. The thought of these creatures flying and resting on the food for consumption deter not only the health conscious but the ordinary people who patronize these eateries. This project is undertaken to study the various techniques currently used, as well as to acquire new findings to overcome problem of house flies faced by UTeM. Current conventional techniques will be studied on their effectiveness. The idea of using micro-radiation and ultrasonic will be included. Even using herbal oil extracts as repellant will be investigated. Certain time of the research will be focused on the effect of the large chicken farms located within the vicinity of the campus. As untreated chicken droppings are ideal breeding ground for house flies and excellent food source for the maggots, using of Effective Microorganism technology to provide solution to the problem is seriously considered.
