Abstract

This research is about the development of three dimensional (3D) courseware for Electromagnetic Theory (EMT) subject that have been offers to all Malaysia Technical University Network (MTUN). The name of the courseware is called 3D-EmT. The courseware was included a multimedia software, three dimensional environment, and exercises for student to be done to test their understanding after using the courseware. This courseware covers up to the whole chapters for EMT subject in multimedia terms but only one chapter that will be using 3D simulation which is Coordinate System and Transformation. Moreover, the theoretical framework fro this rsearch has developed and divided into three parts which are analysis, design and development, and evaluation. The development of 3D-EmT courseare is based on ADDIE model which consists of five phases (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The sample for this research was chosen from engineering students and testing have been done at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) as a place for case study. There are 60 students chosen and they are divided to two groups which are Control Group (CG) for conventional method and Experiment Group (EG) for using 3D-EmT. This courseware has six modules which are Note, Tutorial, Simulation, Glossary, Help, and Past Year. Implementing 3D approach in the courseware for learning is one of the key to achieve a usable ad well accepted system. Findings of the research found that the Experiment Group that underwent teaching and learning process using the 3D-EmT had a higher achievement level as compared to the Control Group that followed the conventional approach to teaching and learning. The use of the 3D is to help student on visualizing their learning and they will easier on memorizing any topic covered. The variety of 3D object while learning will make learning session become more interesting and attractive. Hence, the contribution of this project is to suggest the usage of 3D approach can be as one of the visualization tools.
