Abstract
In this project, we intend to investigate the effects of single pulse transcranial magnetic stimulation (sTMS) of auditory attention by inspecting electroencephalographic (EEG) of normal subjects that elicited from a modified maximum entropy auditory stimulation paradigm. Objective measures which are derived from advanced signal processing approach,i.e., the phase stability measure and an adaptive feature extraction method were used for that purpose. We suggest that TMS suppress ongoing oscillations meanwhile reset the phase of EEG at the frequency band which usually associated with selective auditory attention at the interval of the N1 wave. It appears that an additive response might also have been emerged and superimposed with the background EEG. Results reveal that phase reset of EEG and additive activities generate the TMS–evoked N1 wave. It is concluded that even sTMS has the potential to induce effects which can last about 2s, at least when considering the large–scale neural correlates of attention in auditory late response (ALR) sequences.
