Abstract

An attendance system is a system that is used to track and record the attendance of students or employees to their work or school. There are several types of electronic attendance systems have been introduced to the market. In order to fulfill the consumer needs, a lot of researches have to be carried out to produce a more efficient yet reliable device at a lower cost. This research project aims to design a handheld RFTD attendance recording system namely Portable Attendance Assistant (PAA) for staff/students attendance recording. PAA system consists of four main element~ which are a card detector module, a PIC microcontroller, an LCD panel and a physical storage. The microRWD card detector module is used to read the data on the RFID user card and report the data to the PIC microcontroller. The microcontroller will collect information/data from a card detector and continually update an LCD panel with the details. The data read by the detector will be stored in a SD card (physical storage) on the board. The data on the storage can be retrieved and displayed on a PC in later time. The result of this research is a laboratory prototype of a handheld RFID attendance personal device.
